British soldiers would intentionally soak themselves in coffee when crossing dusty fields in 1857. You see, during the Indian Rebellion, they wore white uniforms that gave away their positions too early. So, they started staining their uniforms with coffee to give them a darker look and avoid being detected from afar. This color was so effective it was later called khaki and became the standard color of the British army uniform.
